While Quarantined

May 20, 2020

To the tune of Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen”

While Quarantined

I learned the truth while quarantined

That boredom soon becomes routine

And days drag on relentlessly

Awash in uniformity

Tuesday Thursday Sunday Friday

Makes no difference to anybody

3pm 4am noon and night

All blend together, no end in sight

Small pleasures we once took for granted

Now seem magical and enchanted

What was routine and even boring

Would be so welcomed and alluring

I’ll burn my sweatpants after this

And only wear things that I can zip

I’ll get a haircut straight away

And away from home I will stay

I’ll belly up to my favorite bar

And drink a glass of Pinot Noir

I'll talk to people I have missed
